The temptation to control time is too strong for anyone to ignore.

Time Specter is a new YA dystopian novel for fans of Back to the Future and Andrew Klavan. In a totalitarian Washington DC, a loyalist and a rebel must work together to save a stranded time traveler—if they don't turn against each other first. It's a blend of Doctor Who with the Legend Series.

About The Book

For as long as Rivera Ardis can remember, child and teenaged insurgents known as “peace rebels” have bombed America in a never-ending conflict, triggering endless curfews and suspicious glances directed at anyone under the age of nineteen. Now it’s 2083, and River wants nothing more than to join the elite counterinsurgent task force to help end the war, but when she’s accidentally flagged by the Reprobate and Extremist Division, those dreams are called into question.

Desperate to prove her loyalty, River chooses to shadow Tony Ryder: a reclusive boy with suspicious family ties to the peace rebels. Catch him in a crime, and she reclaims her future.

In 1995, Cherith Brook knows nothing of the future, and that’s the problem. But her father’s time machine could change all of that. Together they could prevent wars, stop attacks, and never fear what a new day brings. Yet there’s one attack Cherith never saw coming—one that changed the course of history and left her stranded in a future she doesn’t recognize.

While Cherith scrambles to return home, River hunts for the RED’s approval and Tony resists the government’s scrutiny. It’s going to take all three of them and their radically different views to correct a terrible mistake in the timeline. But can they trust each other? After all, the temptation to control time for personal gain is too strong for anyone to ignore.

Rivera Ardis

Rivera "River" Ardis is an eighteen-year-old working as a part-time janitor in her local prison, but she dreams of joining the counterinsurgent task force to protect her country from child and teenaged "peace rebels." When a mistake puts her on the task force’s bad side, however, she determines to prove her worth by spying on a suspected insurgent—her former friend, Tony Ryder. But Tony isn’t who people say, and his beliefs about the task force might cast doubt on everything River's ever believed.

Tony Ryder

After his older brother was arrested for insurgency, Tony fears the angry mobs and watchful eye of the government’s counterinsurgency division. One word of sympathy toward his brother, and he could be next. But despite his lies, Rivera Ardis suspects he’s no friend of the task force. After she finds him trespassing on government property, the two discover a mysterious girl plucked from time itself. For Tony, time travel may be the solution to saving his brother, but the government task force has plans of its own.

Cherith Brook

Sixteen-year-old Cherith is a math genius from 1995, but as a chronic worrier, she aids her ex-NASA engineer father in building a machine that can predict the future and prevent catastrophes. But she quickly learns the future isn’t just observable; it's interactive. When a local politician attempts to steal the machine for himself, Cherith is separated from her family and stranded in a future she doesn’t recognize. Her only allies are the two teenagers who discovered her, but they may have their own interests in mind. After all, the ability to control time is too tempting for anyone to ignore.

    Book Status:
    Complete & Submitted

I’ve completed the first two books in a planned trilogy and have an outline for the third. In July 2024, I pitched the series to my ideal publisher and was asked to submit the full manuscript with my proposal for them to review. I'll receive word back this coming fall, and in the meantime, I'm drafting book three.

    Check back for updates!
